The US Open of Surfing® will kick off on July 26th in Huntington Beach for  the most anticipated surfing event of the year.

This event draws over three quarters of a million fans and onlookers along a 14-acre stretch of sand on the south side of Huntington Beach Pier, showcasing the best in surf, skate, music, and art.

Admission is free and open to the public. Fans will see all of their favorites battle it out again this year in surf and skate’s biggest stadium spaces on both water and sand.

This year’s surf stadium and skate arena will take the competition to another level! Anchored by the world’s largest professional surfing competition, the US Open.

“The US Open of Surfing is the epicenter for action sports culture. See the biggest stadium in surf and largest skate contest on the beach as the top action sports athletes, art and music talent hit the sand in Huntington Beach.

“There is no other event like the US Open of Surfing. Crowds are huge and parking is only available if you arrive early.

Best bet is to park north or south of the pier and cycle or walk to the surfing event

The 139th Ventura County Fair, themed “Rides, Ribbons & Rodeos”   The fair runs for two weeks July 31 – August 11, 2013 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, 10 W. Harbor Boulevard in Ventura.

The Ventura County fair features  live entertainment, contests, lots of interesting fried  food, nostalgic and modern games and rides, horse shoes and everything else you would expect from a county fair.

Exhibits at the fair include  Agriculture, Amateur Art, Flowers, Gems & Minerals, Hobbies & Collections, Home Arts, Horse Shows, Large Livestock, Photography, Professional Art, Small Livestock, Uncle Leo’s Barn and Youth Expo.

Like every other fair there are discount days that save you money on admission and rides. See below for a list of deal days for the Ventura County Fair.

Adults 13 & older $12.00

Children 6-12 $9.00
Seniors 62 & older $9.00
Children 5 & under and Super Seniors (100 years & older) admitted Free.
Parking is ten bucks.

The Fair will open at 11:00 a.m. daily except Saturdays, Sundays and Seniors & Persons with Disabilities Day Tuesday when it will open at 10:00 a.m.

Free entrance to the public. More than 10,000 Ecuadorians, 5,000 people from other nationalities will enjoy a full menu of Ecuadorian Cuisine dishes. Attendants will also enjoy Ecuadorian Crafts, Ecuadorian Musical groups, Ecuadorian Folklore customs, Commercial Products, free ruffle to win 2 airline tickets to Ecuador, Carnival Games, Marketing & Promotions, Services & Information provided by all type of exhibitor companies.

Placita Olvera is located right across the street from Union Station and one block from Chinatown.
Also known as El Pueblo de Los Angeles is a traditional Mexican style plaza with souvenirs shops.

There are several Ecuadorian dishes that are typical to the various regions in the country.
From the mountainous regions people prefer meat served with rice, corn and potatoes. HORNADO (potatoes served with roasted pig & hominy, LLAPINGACHOS (a pan seared potato ball). FRITADA, HUMITAS, TAMALES, LOMO SALTADO & CHURRASCO.

From the coast people prefer fish, beans, plantains and seafood. CEVICHE (fish, shrimp, etc.) marinated in lime juice, YUCA BREAD, ENCEBOLLADO (marinade chunks of fish, onions & spices), PATACONES (unripe plantains fried, mashed up & then refried), SECO DE CHIVO (a stew made from goat).
A variety of fresh fruit are available: Granadilla, Passion fruit, Naranjilla, Bananas, Tree Tomato, Etc.

The 16th Annual Parade starts at 11:00am on Broadway & 7th St. going north on Broadway until 1st St. then Main St. ending at Placita Olvera (Festival area). The parade will have Car clubs, Dance Groups, Drill Teams, convertibles, Motorcycles, 24 Beauty Queens and various Businesses.
