USS Iowa Coming To San Pedro
The battleship USS Iowa is going to have a permanent home in San Pedro, California starting in 2012. The Battleship Museum will be located at Berth 87 in the Port of Los Angeles (summer of 2012).
Nearly every part of the ship will eventually be open to the public, including the command center, top decks, powder magazine rooms, and the historic wardroom that carried President Franklin Roosevelt across the Atlantic for meetings with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
The USS Iowa is expected to draw over 400,000 visitors a yeat to the San Pedro waterfront and be a boom to the surrounding area. Already in place is the San Pedro Trolley Car, SS Lane Victory and the Los Angeles Maritime Museum.
