Free Places to go in Southern California Nix Nature Center

 
James and Rosemary Nix Nature Center is located in the center of Laguna Canyon just off Laguna Canyon road. Admission to the center and the miles of hiking trails is free. Inside the center are displays and exhibits about the canyon and the animals that live in it. Restrooms with changing tables, drinking fountains, picnic tables, free maps and nature-oriented merchandise are available on site. There is a short ½-mile loop trail or for the more adventurous you can hike up Little Sycamore Canyon. Another great hike from the Nix Nature Center is to Barbara's Lake, Orange Counties only natural lake. The parking lot tends to fill up fast on weekends but during the week you should have the place to your self. Bring along a picnic lunch and enjoy the sights and sounds of Laguna canyon.

The Nix Nature Center is located at 18751 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. Directions drive 3.5 miles south of the I-405 and Route 133 interchange. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., including holidays, with free admission. The parking lot is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. parking fee is $3. While you in the canyon check out Laguna Canyon Winery. This is Orange Counties only working winery with a the wine made on premises. Wine tasting room is open seven days a week.
