Grauman's Chinese Theatre opened in 1927 showing "King of Kings," produced by Cecil B. DeMille. During the 1940's, Grauman's Chinese Theatre also hosted the annual Academy Award ceremonies. The exterior of the theatre is a Chinese pagoda with a dragon snaking its way across the front and two stone lion-dogs guarding the main entrance. The main attraction for tourists is the forecourt where the stars put their footprints and hand prints in cement. The theatre is the starting off point for bus tours of Hollywood and moive star homes tours. The tours are a little bit touristy but can be a lot of fun especially if you get a good tour guide.

The outdoor courtyard is open 24 hours a day but it is best to visit during the day or early evening. The area around the historic theatre has recently changed with new Hollywood & Highland project right next door. This project includes the permanent home for the academy awards show, nightclubs,retail shops and a luxury hotel. Half-hour guided walking tour of the theatre are now offered Adults are $5 (and kids under 5 are free).
Tourists outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre
If you decide to visit Grauman's Chinese Theatre you might want to take one of the Hollywood Bus Tours. Ride in an open air trolley or double decker bus and take narrated tour of historic Hollywood. Tours depart about every sixty minutes from the theater. Starline Tours will validate parking in the Hollywood and Highland garage. The validation price is $2 for four hours. The garage is underneath the Hollywood and Highland Center. If you park in one of the lots it will cost you ten bucks. Go ahead have fun, be a tourist and take a Hollywood Movie Star Tour.
By car: Grauman’s Chinese Theatre is located at the northeast corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Orange Drive, just west of Highland Avenue, and just 11 blocks west of the corner of Hollywood and Vine. From the Hollywood (101) Freeway, take the Hollywood Boulevard exit, then go west on Hollywood Boulevard 1 1/2 miles, to just past Highland Avenue (and just before Orange Drive).
