Griffith Park Southern Railroad opened in 1948 and and has been a family favorite ever since that day. Your journey begins and the Los Feliz passenger station where you purchase your tickets for just $2.50 each. The trip aboard the miniature train is just over a mile long and takes about 15 minutes to complete. The train journey takes you over a fifty year old creaking bridge and into the woods of Griffith Park. Sights you will see include a old western town and an Indian village. The little miniature trains hold up to seventy passengers and departs from the station about every 30 minutes on the weekends and during the busy summer season.

Next door to the train station is the Griffith Park pony rides. This is another fun activity the park offers for kids. Parents love to watch their kids ride around the oval track. Even if you don't have kids it's a blast to watch as the ponies take off at a fast gallop and the kids hang on for dear life. A short drive down the road is travel town which also has a train ride and full size train engines and cars on display. For even more fun drive up the hill to the Griffith Park Observatory which has dozens of hands on exhibits and some great views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign. Another very popular destination in Griffith Park is the LA Zoo. If you plan on visiting the zoo go there first before the crowds arrive. Parking is free in the park and prices are very reasonable for all attractions. Griffith Park has something for everyone in the family and makes a great LA day trip.
