Point Mugu State Park is located midway between Oxnard and Malibu Beach along highway 1 and has about five miles of shoreline. There are two camping areas: Thornhill Broome Campground, on the beach with 68 campsites and Sycamore Canyon Campground, across the highway, with 58 campsites. Both tents and RV's are accepted at Point Mugu State Park. Motor homes and trailers and trailers are limited to 31 feet long. Camping on the beach side using tents my be difficult due to the winds. Campsite in Sycamore Canyon are more sheltered and have trees for shade. Restrooms with showers are available at both campgrounds. Camping reservations can be made up to seven months in advance.

Point Mugu State Park offers two distinct experiences for campers and day trippers. The beach has tide pools to explore along with a beach suitable for swimming, body surfing and surf fishing. Inland Sycamore Canyon leads to miles of hiking trails to explore including the the jagged pinnacles of the Boney Mountains State Wilderness Area. One popular route is Overlook Trail which leads the hiker up the Santa Monica Mountains and offers a spectacular vista of the park and Pacific Ocean below. Point Mugu State Park is the largest preserved area in the Santa Monica Mountains and a joy to visit even if it's only for the day.

Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer, additional vehicles will be charged per night at the park. Thornhill Broome campground has no showers, chemical toilets, and no shade. Pay showers only in Sycamore Canyon campground. Point Mugu State Park is 15 miles south of Oxnard on Highway One 9000 W.
