California Route 66 Museum in Victorville has a collection of photographs and artifacts related to the history of Route 66. Before interstate 15 was built route 66 was the main route east from Southern California. Route 66 is still alive in some sections but others have all but disappeared. The museum is a good stopping off point for researching a trip that follows the old route. They have brochures, maps and other travel information on points of interest along the old highway. The gift shop offers gifts and products that are exclusive to the route 66 museum.
Old Town Victorville
The museum was established in Old Town Victorville, California on November 11, 1995, along a stretch of the old route 66. The museum building itself was once a road house, the Red Rooster Cafe. In fact the movie "The Jazz Singer" starring Neil Diamond was filmed here. Old Town Victorville still looks much like it did back when route 66 was a bustling interstate highway. Take time to stop at this fascinating little museum next time your on a trip out to Las Vegas or the Colorado river.
