Southern California Beach Camping

Public campgrounds from Pismo Beach to San Diego. Fresh ocean breezes, the sound of crashing waves and cozy nights by the camp fire. Enjoy swimming, surfing, tide pools, hiking and biking. During the summer months advance reservations are a must, off season it's possible to drive right in and get hooked up with a beach campsite. Gaviota State Beach - Extensive hiking trails in the surrounding hills and valleys. Historic pier used for fishing and divers. Boat launch by hoist from pier.
San Elijo State Beach - Bluff top camping with views of the Pacific Ocean. North San Diego County area. Stairway leads down to wide sandy beach.
San Onofre State Beach - 3,000 acre park with two campgrounds. Camp along old Pacific Coast Highway. Six trails lead down to 3.5 miles of sandy beach. Trail number six leads to a beach frequented by nudists.
San Clemente State Beach - Large campground with picnic area. Swimming, surfing, and skin diving. Well known surfing area. Close to town and the San Clemente pier and Trestles Beach.
EL Capitan State Beach - Lots of tide pools and quite beach. Good swimming and surfing. Stairway access from bluff to the beach. Day use and over night camping.
Refugio State Beach - Palm trees give campground distinctive look. 3 mile bike trail runs along the beach to El Capitan Beach. Great camping place without driving too far.
Emma Wood - Ruins of coastal artillery site. March near beach attracts birds and wildlife. Good for swimming and surfing. Ruins of a World War II coastal artillery.
Carpinteria Beach - Swimming, surfing, tide pools and camping. Sea Lions and whales are often seen in season. Twelve miles south of Santa Barbara.
Point Mugu State Park - Located in the Santa Monica Mountains. 13,300 acre park has 5 miles of shoreline. More than 70 miles of hiking trails. AT&T Wi-Fi Service.
McGrath State Beach - Famous for bird watching at the sand dunes. Trail to Santa Clara Estuary. Campsites are a just a short walk to the wide sandy beach.
Thornhill Broome Beach - Camp right on the beach here more suitable for RVs but there are some tent camping sites. Listen to the waves crashing at your door step for the fraction of the cost of a hotel room.
Leo Carillo - Mile and a half of beach with tide pools, caves and reefs. Visitor center and shady campsites. Nature walks and campfire programs offered.
Doheny Beach - South end camping sites are on the beach. Five acre lawn with picnic tables and volley ball courts. Walk to the Dana Point Harbor.
Crystal Cove -2000 acres hills to explore with your mountain bike. 3.5 miles of beach. Historic beach cottages are rented out on a first come first serve basis.
Pismo Beach - Good swimming, surfing, digging for Pismo clams. Camp and drive on the beach. There are several RV resorts near the beach and plenty of hotels.
Bolsa Chica - Long flat beach backed by 1,000 acre wetland. Only RV sites. Bike trail runs along the beach for miles. Local in town camping near Huntington Beach.
South Carlsbad - Bluff top campground popular in summer months. Passing trains can interrupt sleeping campers. This large campground is very popular, especially in summer. Stairs lead down to the beach.
Jalama Beach Santa Barbara - One of the most unique places to camp along the coast. Campsites are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Very secluded beach. Try out the world famous Jalama burger for lunch.
Silver Strand State Beach - Beaches on both the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay. Self-contained RV and tent trailers only are allowed at this campsite.
Morro Strand State Beach - A three-mile coastal frontage park. From the beach, visitors can view the entire Estero Bay, including Morro Rock.
