Before the dredging, the Lagoon was open to the Pacific Ocean. In the early 1970s, Kawasaki tested its new water sport vehicle, the stand-up Jet Ski, at the Lagoon. Soon after, impromptu Jet Ski races were held in the Lagoon. Today, you can still rent a Wave Runner, but there are many more rules to obey, and the races are long gone.
