The Nevada Northern Railway is a fun place to visit even if you are not a railfan.

If you live in or are visiting Las Vegas the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City is also worth checking out.

Those steam engines that pull the excursion trains were delivered there over 100 years ago. You go up through tunnels on the 90 minute train ride. The tour of the maintenance shops afterward is pretty impressive. The whole place is like a slice out of a time capsule. I tried the caboose overnight with two grandkids. It was fun.
